There is a lot of literature out there that describes how to give positive feedback to others. But, I just learned something about this process that caused a shift for me and I wanted to share it with you.
My good friend Chad Littlefield posted a live demo last week which describes the difference between appreciation and affirmation on his wonderful YouTube channel and it was thrilling to watch.
Both forms of feedback are useful but only one of them makes a powerful impact. As Chad describes, one gets a “Hey, cool” in return while the other sparks a “Wow, thanks” from the recipient.
If you want to learn how to give positive feedback that lands with a WOW, spend a couple of minutes with Chad (click the button below) and watch him demonstrate the difference with his cameraman. If nothing else, listening to his somewhat embarrassing personal story (and how he grew from it) is worth your time.

And to practice what I just learned…
Chad, you inspire me with every interaction we have – face-to-face, virtual, videos, the lot. You occur to me as someone who truly wants to make this world a better, more meaningful place to live. I am proud to count you among one of my most significant friends and colleagues. Thank you.

Mark!! I love this so much. What a great distinction and it’s so next level but also so simple. What they do versus who they are!! I have been thinking about this for some time but this is going to help me so much.
The content you (and Chad) share is inspiring! I love starting my day with coffee and reading your blog or watching a video.
