Step-by-Step Instructions

This active tag game creates a strategic challenge with clear roles that keep everyone moving. Mad Chefs transforms an ordinary space into a risk-reward scenario where players must make quick decisions. Perfect for physical education or outdoor events, this team-based tag game requires minimal setup and works with any group size. The queueing rule adds tactical elements while preventing elimination. Suitable for youth groups and adults, it builds excitement while keeping players engaged throughout.

Mad Chefs – Active Tag Game
  1. Nominate one person for every five people in your group to be a ‘chef.’
  2. Identify half of the chefs as ‘good’ and the other half as ‘mad.’
  3. Distribute a pen to every chef and a paper plate to every other person.
  4. When ready, invite your chefs to distribute themselves evenly throughout the playing space.
  5. Instruct the rest of your group to visit as many of the good chefs as they can while avoiding being tagged by the mad chefs.
  6. Good chefs are instructed to write the name of one food on the plate of each person who visits them.
  7. Announce that up to three (or four) people may queue in front of a good chef and not be tagged.
  8. Every time someone is tagged by a mad chef, they will have one of their food items struck off their plate.
  9. Play two or more five-minute rounds.
  10. The person(s) who tallies the most number of foods on their plate at the end of play, wins.
