Step-by-Step Instructions

This fun circle energiser creates instant engagement through unpredictable moments of eye contact and surprise. Look Up Look Down transforms a simple circle into a laughter-filled space as participants react to catching each other’s gaze. Perfect for workshops or training sessions that need a quick break, this activity requires no equipment and minimal explanation. The flow of people between circles keeps everyone involved throughout. Suitable for all ages and group sizes, it boosts energy while creating connections.

Look Up Look Down – Fun Circle Energiser
  1. Form a tight circle, asking your group to place their arms on the shoulders of their neighbours.
  2. When you say “LOOK UP” everyone looks straight up into the air.
  3. When you say “LOOK DOWN” everyone casts their eyes down and directly at the eyes of one specific person in the circle.
  4. When two people happen to look directly at each other, they immediately let out a scream and leave the circle.
  5. The circle rejoins and continues the looking up and down routine.
  6. Those who leave the circle form a second circle and restart the looking up and down process.
  7. People move between the two circles with each round.
  8. Continue play for 1 to 2 minutes.

  1. David Piang-Nee

Fun energiser and icebreaker game which also helps to break down that distance between people especially if they do not know each other.. That social phenomena that is referred to in the explanation of the activity.

Also really useful as it is a quick set up to be used as a filler activity to bridge activities and revitalise the group quickly with movement and fun.
