Step-by-Step Instructions
This trust-building challenge creates a powerful experience that develops confidence, courage and group responsibility. I Trust You, But… encourages participants to place their trust in peers by running blindfolded toward a line of spotters. Perfect for team development workshops, outdoor education programs and corporate training focused on building relationships. The controlled risk environment allows individuals to explore trust boundaries while the group learns the importance of supporting team members in a meaningful, impactful activity.
I Trust You, But… – Trust-Building Challenge
- Ask a volunteer to move at least 25 metres away from the rest of the group.
- The rest of your group forms a line of ‘spotters’ facing the volunteer, side-by-side about arm’s length apart.
- Upon issuing a series of agreed ‘Are-you-ready?’ commands, ask the volunteer to close their eyes, place their hands in front of their face, and run at a three-quarter pace directly towards the line of spotters.
- Runners should aim to maintain a constant pace and only stop when the spotters make contact with their hands.
- Spotters aim to stop the runner from passing through their line, by meeting the runner’s hands with their own.
- Repeat with several volunteers.
