Step-by-Step Instructions

This quick group awareness activity creates powerful moments of connection through observation and mirroring. Freeze Frame transforms ordinary movement into a collective experience of heightened awareness. The fun large group energiser requires no materials and works in any open space. Perfect for conferences, workshops or classroom settings, this active fun group game develops peripheral vision and non-verbal communication while generating focus among participants.

Freeze Frame – Quick Group Awareness Energiser
  1. Ask your group to spread themselves evenly throughout a large open area.
  2. Invite everyone to walk aimlessly and silently about the area.
  3. After approx 10 seconds have elapsed, any one or more individuals may choose to freeze and stop walking.
  4. Anyone who spots another person who has frozen is invited to freeze immediately too.
  5. Time how long it takes for the whole group to freeze, ie from the moment the first person freezes to the last person.
  6. Aim to record the quickest time to freeze the whole group.
  7. Allow many rounds, inviting the group to improve their performance (time.)

    Love this simple and powerful activity. It is my current favorite transition from ice breakers into more serious problem solving. I used this recently with 20 adults and was amazed at the rich conversation that came from this activity and ow well it worked to set up the day.
